Prepping to Punch

Apologies for not having the short game area available last Friday morning, but we needed to use these two greens as test subjects in preparation for this week's greens aerification.  If you're wondering why we didn't just wait and aerify these greens at the same time as the rest, there are a couple of reasons.

To be honest, greens aerification is never exactly the same from year to year.  We are always reviewing the process and making slight adjustments in order to maximize productivity, and more importantly, the long-term results from this cultural practice.  Starting out on the SGA greens allows us to get the protocol dialed-in.

This small-scale start is also a great opportunity to make sure that all of the equipment is functioning correctly prior to Monday.  Unlike our fleet of mowers, most of the equipment used for the aerification process isn't run on a daily basis.  And while we can start it in the shop, there is nothing quite like putting it on a green to find out if all is good or not.

Again, this is a lengthy multi-step process; fortunately the stretch of good weather is continuing.
