If you have been a regular follower of the turf blog over the years, you have had to endure numerous pictures of turf and...keys. Occasionally, members have asked what's up with the keys.
The answer is that a set of keys gives some perspective, when the background may be nothing other than a plot of grass. This helps to show the size of aerification holes, disease, weed, etc. If you look around at enough turf pictures, you may see golf balls, tees, a ballmark repair tool, a knife, or occasionally a boot used for the same purpose.
